It's called a Toilet....!

It's called a Toilet...!

Would one wear slippers instead of shoes on a suit? Would one wear a T-shirt instead of a formal suit for an interview? Then why do people forget to use public toilets instead of gardens? Why is it so difficult for them to understand the difference? O Lord that they may see...
Imagine a beautiful garden just like the ones in the picture. Imagine walking into this garden full of lush green grass and beautiful trees both dark and green alike decorated with pretty purple flowers scattered all over. What a beautiful day indeed to have this garden be a part of your day. Go deeper into this paradise and there inside in the bushes you find an ignorant fool urinating in this garden...what a sight!
On my way to work, I come across this garden everyday. It is more of a mini forest than a garden but it surely is absolutely beautiful to watch in the morning from sleepy eyes like mine. But to my horror, this beautiful scenary is spoilt by these lazy men who can't control their impatient bladders. How do they have the heart to ruin a perfectly good scenary like this one in the picture. Urinating was not enough, people litter here heartlessly without giving it a second thought of what's left in this metropolitan city. Notice in one of the pictures, how a plastic bottle has been thrown on the ground.
On my way back from the office, I pass by this garden again. I see a board overlooking the garden claiming this land as their property but nobody has been kept to monitor the entry of those 'bladder people'. In the evening, when I pass by this garden which is on my way to the railway station, this beautiful garden is stinking with the obnoxious smell of urine. A place one would like to enter and look around with peaceful eyes, by evening is now a place where people would rather rush by as swiftly as they can because the smell can make you faint. I do not understand why our people cannot respect their land - the land they walk on...
I hope our Indians one day learn to control their bladder issues and look for a toilet. There are plenty of public toilets in our city. It feels like these people feel like urinating by just looking at this garden. Please do not make this a pissing garden.....may be I should put this sign there outside but I am obviously not entitled to encroach a property that isn't looked after by anyone. Who would notice me putting a sign board there and then dare to stop me... if nobody bothers about the 'bladder people', why should I be of any difference?
Let me know your suggestions.... I can also call the property owners but wonder whether they would bother or their contact number might not even be functional, which is very common in India. Whatever contacts you are given are not even functional anymore. Who must you call for help???
I am not against my Indians but I do believe many of them need to be educated about the appropriate places to urinate and that place is commonly known as the TOILET.... Who would've known!
Keep India Clean - Keep India Green -Make Our Country Urine Free !!!!

NEW BEGGAR ON THE BLOCK

Everyday, on my way to work, I see beggars although few on the side of the road starring at the people walking by so that someone with a merciful heart may drop in a few coins. Most of them I believe are not genuine beggars but if somebody is capable of identifying one, let everybody know so that we can be merciful to the right ones who won't misuse our hard earned money.

It is better to give them food than money. Extra food however is not something we always carry with us. Beggars prefer money so that they can buy something that is not useful to them like drugs, alcohol.... This is what I have heard.

I have noticed that a beggar won't stay for long in the same area. Not for more than a few days. They are consistent in being inconsistent, nomading from one area to another. After a few days, you get to see a new face. They are seasonal. Some don't stay during the rainy season while some sit right outside gates of Churches, Temples or Mosques so that devotees coming out offer some money out of kindness and compassion.

When I was a child, I used to think lending money to beggars is the right and righteous thing to do. As I grew up, I realised that we can be righteous just by feeding the hungry, giving water to the thirsty and clothing the naked. We are cheated every where and by many indeed who sit on the side of the road. The question is, who is genuine? Should we really not give so as to discourage them from begging or give and forget?

I have also read about the beggars who own houses and yet choose to beg. Probably one of the easiest and fastest ways of stealing money. They are indeed actors in the beggars' world of artists. Guilt, compassion and mercy are three main feelings a beggar can play on people for getting money from them. You feel guilty, you donate money. You feel compassion, you lend money. You have mercy, you give money to beggars who aren't really beggars or who knows.

A new beggar on the block shows that they roam from one place to another in search of target customers to make thumping profit from their silent and non-aggressive sales. They have television sets in their houses. This means they pay for electricity but don't pay taxes.

I do not mean to discourage the meaning of giving to beggars. All I mean is that give them something else other than money. I am sure they won't bite you if you give them food or water. They may either accept or reject but what's it to you, you can forget after giving; after all you did you duty and certainly gave the hungry food to eat and the thirsty to drink.

Jesus' sacrifice studied anatomically and physiologically... need more evidence of his love for us?

VERY IMPORTANT!!
MUST READ & SHARE!!

The Anatomical And Physiological Details Of Death By Crucifixion:
By Dr. C. Truman Davis
A Physician Analyzes the Crucifixion.
From New Wine Magazine, April 1982.
Originally published in Arizona Medicine,
March 1965, Arizona Medical Association.

Crucifixion was invented by the Persians in 300 BC, and perfected by the Romans in 100 BC.

1,It is the most painful death ever invented by man and is where we get our term "excruciating."

2,It was reserved primarily for the most vicious of male criminals.
Jesus refused the anaesthetic wine which was offered to Him by the Roman soldiers because of His promise in Matthew 26: 29, "But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom."

3,Jesus was stripped naked and His clothing divided by the Roman guards. This was in fulfilment of Psalm 22:18, "They divide My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots."

4,The Crucifixion of Jesus guaranteed a horrific, slow, painful death.
Having been nailed the Cross, Jesus now had an impossible anatomical position to maintain.

5,Jesus' knees were flexed at about 45 degrees, and He was forced to bear His weight with the muscles of His thigh, which is not an anatomical position which is possible to maintain for more than a few minutes without severe cramp in the muscles of the thigh and calf.

6,Jesus' weight was borne on His feet, with nails driven through them.
As the strength of the muscles of Jesus' lower limbs tired, the weight of His body had to be transferred to His wrists, His arms, and His shoulders.

7,Within a few minutes of being placed on the Cross, Jesus' shoulders were dislocated.
Minutes later Jesus' elbows and wrists became dislocated.

8,The result of these upper limb dislocations is that His arms were 9 inches longer than normal, as clearly shown on the Shroud.

9,In addition prophecy was fulfilled in Psalm 22:14, "I am poured out like water, and all My bones are out of joint."

10,After Jesus' wrists, elbows, and shoulders were dislocated, the weight of His body on his upper limbs caused traction forces on the Pectoralis Major muscles of His chest wall.

11,These traction forces caused His rib cage to be pulled upwards and outwards, in a most unnatural state. His chest wall was permanently in a position of maximal respiratory inspiration. In order to exhale, Jesus was physiologically required to force His body.

12,In order to breathe out, Jesus had to push down on the nails in His feet to raise His body, and allow His rib cage to move downwards and inwards to expire air from His lungs.

13,His lungs were in a resting position of constant maximum inspiration.
Crucifixion is a medical catastrophe.

14,The problem was that Jesus could not easily push down on the nails in His feet because the muscles of His legs, bent at 45 degrees, were extremely fatigued, in severe cramp, and in an anatomically compromised position.

15,Unlike all Hollywood movies about the Crucifixion, the victim was extremely active.
The crucified victim was physiologically forced to move up and down the cross, a distance of about 12 inches, in order to breathe.

16,The process of respiration caused excruciating pain, mixed with the absolute terror of asphyxiation.

17,As the six hours of the Crucifixion wore on, Jesus was less and less able to bear His weight on His legs, as His thigh and calf muscles became increasingly exhausted.
There was increasing dislocation of His wrists, elbows and shoulders, and further elevation of His chest wall, making His breathing more and more difficult
Within minutes of crucifixion Jesus became severely dyspnoeic (short of breath).

18,His movements up and down the Cross to breathe caused excruciating pain in His wrist, His feet, and His dislocated elbows and shoulders.

19,The movements became less frequent as Jesus became increasingly exhausted, but the terror of imminent death by asphyxiation forced Him to continue in His efforts to breathe.

20,Jesus' lower limb muscles developed excruciating cramp from the effort of pushing down on His legs, to raise His body, so that He could breathe out, in their anatomically compromised position.

21,The pain from His two shattered median nerves in His wrists exploded with every movement.

22,Jesus was covered in blood and sweat.

23,The blood was a result of the Scourging that nearly killed Him, and the sweat as a result of His violent involuntary attempts to effort to expire air from His lungs.
Throughout all this He was completely naked, and the leaders of the Jews, the crowds, and the thieves on both sides of Him were jeering, swearing and laughing at Him.
In addition, Jesus' own mother was watching.

24,Physiologically, Jesus' body was undergoing a series of catastrophic and terminal events.

25,Because Jesus could not maintain adequate ventilation of His lungs, He was now in a state of hypoventilation (inadequate ventilation).

26,His blood oxygen level began to fall, and He developed Hypoxia (low blood oxygen).
In addition, because of His restricted respiratory movements, His blood carbon dioxide (CO2) level began to rise, a condition known as Hypercapnia.

27,This rising CO2 level stimulated His heart to beat faster in order to increase the delivery of oxygen, and the removal of CO2

28,The Respiratory Centre in Jesus' brain sent urgent messages to his lungs to breathe faster, and Jesus began to pant.

29,Jesus' physiological reflexes demanded that He took deeper breaths, and He involuntarily moved up and down the Cross much faster, despite the excruciating pain.
The agonising movements spontaneously started several times a minute, to the delight of the crowd who jeered Him, the Roman soldiers, and the Sanhedrin.

30,However, due to the nailing of Jesus to the Cross and His increasing exhaustion, He was unable to provide more oxygen to His oxygen starved body.

31,The twin forces of Hypoxia (too little oxygen) and Hypercapnia (too much CO2) caused His heart to beat faster and faster, and Jesus developed Tachycardia.

32,Jesus' heart beat faster and faster, and His pulse rate was probably about 220 beats/ minute, the maximum normally sustainable.

33,Jesus had drunk nothing for 15 hours, since 6 pm the previous evening.
Jesus had endured a scourging which nearly killed Him.

34,He was bleeding from all over His body following the Scourging, the crown of thorns, the nails in His wrists and feet, and the lacerations following His beatings and falls.

35,Jesus was already very dehydrated, and His blood pressure fell alarmingly.

36,His blood pressure was probably about 80/50.

37,He was in First Degree Shock, with Hypovolaemia (low blood volume), Tachycardia (excessively fast Heart Rate), Tachypnoea (excessively fast Respiratory Rate), and Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

38,By about noon Jesus' heart probably began to fail.

39,Jesus' lungs probably began to fill up with Pulmonary Oedema.

40,This only served to exacerbate His breathing, which was already severely compromised.

41,Jesus was in Heart Failure and Respiratory Failure.

42,Jesus said, "I thirst" because His body was crying out for fluids.

43,Jesus was in desperate need of an intravenous infusion of blood and plasma to save His life

44,Jesus could not breathe properly and was slowly suffocating to death.

45,At this stage Jesus probably developed a Haemopericardium.

46,Plasma and blood gathered in the space around His heart, called the Pericardium.

47,This fluid around His heart caused Cardiac Tamponade (fluid around His heart, which prevented Jesus' heart from beating properly).

48,Because of the increasing physiological demands on Jesus' heart, and the advanced state of Haemopericardium, Jesus probably eventually sustained Cardiac Rupture. His heart literally burst. This was probably the cause of His death.

49,To slow the process of death the soldiers put a small wooden seat on the Cross, which would allow Jesus the "privilege" of bearing His weight on his sacrum.

50,The effect of this was that it could take up to nine days to die on a Cross.

51,When the Romans wanted to expedite death they would simply break the legs of the victim, causing the victim to suffocate in a matter of minutes. This was called Crucifragrum.

52,At three o'clock in the afternoon Jesus said, "Tetelastai," meaning, "It is finished."
At that moment, He gave up His Spirit, and He died.

53,When the soldiers came to Jesus to break His legs, He was already dead. Not a bone of His body was broken, in fulfilment of prophecy (above).

54,Jesus died after six hours of the most excruciating and terrifying torture ever invented.

55,Jesus died so that ordinary people like you and me could go to Heaven.

All He Asks You is to Love Him, Your Lord, Your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'!!

History of Mount Mary's Church, Bandra, Mumbai, India

Source of information (Reference): http://mountmarybasilicabandra.in/history

This information I am passing on to those who are interested to know about the history of Mt Mary's Church and when It was formed. Read on...

BASILICA HISTORY

ORIGINAL ORATORY

1570       With the Jesuit Fathers beginning to take care of ministry in Bandra with headquarters at Santa
Ana Church (near the old slaughter house), a simple Oratory made of mud emerges at the Mount
near Lands End, for private devotion only. A wooden statue of Our Lady, depicted as the Mother
of God was brought by the Jesuits from Portugal and placed on the main altar. This could
be considered as the first edifice, which immediately begins to attract a large number of devotees.
1573       The Priest-in-charge of Bandra area was Fr. Joao Diaz SJ.
1587       The Mount Mary Oratory is placed under the authority of the Parish of Santa Ana.
1616       The increase of Christian population required the bifurcation of the old parish of Santa Ana.
The parish of St. Andrew was thus created and the Mount Mary Oratory was placed under
the authority of the new Parish of St. Andrew’s.

CHAPEL

1640       The Mount Mary Oratory is enlarged into a Chapel (2nd edifice) for use of the increasing
number of devotees, as well as for the Portuguese garrison stationed in the Fort at Lands End.
1665       Bombay island is handed over to the British by the Portuguese.
1700       Bandra was invaded by a pirate army of the Muscat Arabs who, hoping to find treasure, attempted
to ransack the Shrine. When disappointed in their expectations, they chopped of the right
forearm of the statue, thinking it was of gold! They also intended to set fire to the church, when
a huge army of bees attacked them so cruelly that they were forced to abandon their evil
intentions and leave. As the statue was damaged, it was probably stored in the lumber room,
and, in order not to disappoint the pilgrims, the statue of Our Lady of Navigators from the side
altar of St. Andrew’s Church was brought to the Mount.
1739       The last Jesuit Vicar of St Andrew’s, Fr Thomas Villanova SJ leaves Bandra, and a local Priest,
Fr. Paulo Dias, took charge of St. Andrew’s Parish and the Mount Mary Chapel.
1741-61  Public devotion at the Mount comes to a standstill because of political instability and a  lack
of priests to look after the Shrine.

CHURCH

1761        Mount Mary Chapel was rebuilt for the third time. The broken statue of Our Lady of the Mount
was repaired by placing a detachable Child Jesus on it; the statue that was brought from
St. Andrew’s Church was returned to its original place. This same year, the Archbishop of Goa,
Dom Antonio Taveira de Neiva Brum da Silveira, established the Confraternity of Nossa Senhora
de Monte attached to the Chapel.
1848        Fr. Antonio Joaquim da Silva, curate of St Andrew’s since 1839, was known as “Chaplain of
Nossa Senhora de Monte” he now lies buried in the sacristy of St Andrew’s.
1848-52   With financial aid from Sir Jamsetjee Jejeebhoy and family, in gratitude for favours received,
a road was constructed from the Bandra end of the newly-built Mahim Causeway to Mount
                 Mary Church.
1869-79   Fr Ersamo Francisco Xavier who was now Chaplain renovated and embellished the chapel.
He probably added a glass portico in front of the chapel.
1882        The Chaplain, Fr Elias Hypolito Fernandes (from Chuim), renovated the Chapel yet again.
1885        Mahim causeway came to be built, as well as the linking of the railway line, causing a greater
influx of pilgrims to the shrine.
1895        A major devastating plague broke out in Mumbai.

MINOR BASILICA

1902       Despite the plague the Fathers of St Andrew’s go ahead with the project of building a better
edifice on the Mount. The project is taken up by Fr Placid Hilary Henriques (Vicar of St Andrew’s)
with the help of Fr Elias Braz Dias and Fr Pedro Antonio Fernandes. This foundation stone was only
laid on 11th May 1902 by His Grace Archbishop D. Sebastiao Jose Pereira of Damaun (who lies buried in
               the shrine).
The Architect was Mr. S. N. Chandabhoy, and most of the materials were brought by sea,
and lifted up with the help of bullock carts and donkeys.
1904       The present Church, the fourth edifice, is completed and thrown open to pilgrims, on the
occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the Promulgation of the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception.
1943       Archbishop Thomas Roberts gave the shrine an independent status under a Rector of its own,
in the person of Msgr. Dominic de Sa. (1st Rector of the shrine)

Tombstone of Msgr. Dominic De Sa, located in St. Andrew's Church, Bandra

1950       Msgr. Placidus Edward Fernandes constructed the Rectory “Marianella”.
1954       Inauguration of Oratory of Our Lady of Fatima, on 5th Dec., opposite the Church.
This was the occasion of the Marian Year when for the first time the statue of Our Lady of
the Mount was taken on a pilgrimage to all the parishes of the city, suburbs and Vasai.
On 2nd Dec the statue was brought back with pomp to the Shrine, where Cardinal Valerian
Gracias warmly welcomed this beloved Mot Mavli back in its abode.
On 5th December, the Cardinal crowned the statue of Our Lady and the Child Jesus with gold crowns.
That same day the Church was given the status of a Minor Basilica by Pope Pius XII.
1964       Pope Paul VI, on a visit to Bombay for the International Eucharistic Congress, graced this
               beautiful Basilica with a visit.
1986       Pope John Paul II, on a visit to India, visited the Basilica.

At Mount Mary's Church

Today I went to Mount Mary's Church

It was an unexpected turn on our way to Bandra due to the unending traffic on the road. We (my parents and I) had decided to go to St. Peter's Church but it was later decided that we should attend mass at Mt Mary's Church, only because the traffice seemed to decrease in that direction.
However, when we arrived we got to know that evening masses are never conducted here....

Disappointment grew on our faces as our ignorant minds realised that we had just missed mass. Where were we going to get another taxi or rickshaw to go to another Church in time?

So we sat there in silence and prayed. My mother was annoyed that we didn't get to attend mass but my father did not feel the difference at all...

As I stared back at Mother Mary's magnificent image at the alter, I could not recollect what to pray for... my travel mode was still switched on from the one hour journey while my prayer mode was still settling in...
I prayed a little and then wondered whether I had done anything wrong as I felt blank and couldn't figure out what to pray. Probably my own subconscious mind making me feel guilty for not attending a proper mass. We got up after a while and exited from the main gate of the Church instead of going out from the back.

As we were moving out, there was another statue of Mother Mary placed across the road above a beautifully architectured spiral staircase on both sides for believers to walk up and pray with candles like a way up to heaven walking towards Mother Mary who has been waiting for us.... I walked up the staircase and as I reached the top which was not far off, I looked again at Mother Mary and wondered what to pray. Why was I at a loss of words? Suddenly, a thought came through my head - if I do not know what to pray for or what to ask for, I should very rightly pray for the benefit of human kind.

It should be no secret what I prayed for or rather who I prayed for... this prayer comes from the lips of many and indeed should be answered and attended to... I have not lost my faith and so I prayed on for women and children who live lives of the less dignified. For those who were raped and killed, for those who survived after being raped and for those who are being raped everyday...

I may have not attended the mass but the prayer that leaves from my mouth everyday is for these women and children... Jesus said to pray for those who persecute us. Somehow I prayed for the rapists to be punished severely, so that those who attempt to commit such a brutal crime against innocent women and children will never let that thought cross their minds again. But only if it be God's will, for who am I to pass judgement even on the most sinful of people.

I would like to tell those who say that punishment of the rapists should not be done or our children will grow up to learn that revenge is the answer to all sorts of injustice. My dear friends, why is justice perceived as revenge. Indeed, severe is not the answer but the rapists need to be made an example of, so that those attempted to commit such crimes may not follow the foot steps of their evil desires. Boys need to be educated by the school and their parents about respecting girls as they are and not treat them less of an animal. That is the real justice. However, the so-called revenge punishment is not revenge but a detterent for these perpetrators who think they can get away with rape and murder.

I may have not attended mass today but this was a sincere prayer from my heart to Mother Mary and I know that she has heard me. My heart can never cry enough for these women and children who have to carry such a torturous and heavily burdened cross. Everyday is a living hell for them. When on one side the world is beautiful, the other side represents the most ugly truth of life.
I wonder how both can co-exist.
